Cradle Mtn Wilderness Village

Optional touring possibilities: Travel along the NWcoast.
WYNYARD is a substantial village some 15 minutes west of Burnie and with a Wonders of Wynyard exhibition that includes Australia's largest collection of restored Ford motor vehicles, including a 1903 model believed to be the equal oldest in the world. The car collection is housed inside the Visitor Information Centre which also has a small gallery which hosts some excellent exhibitions of local craft, art and collections.

STANLEY population 500, is a totally restored Bass Strait fishing village with tiny, brightly-painted cottages neatly terraced on the lower slopes of an extinct volcano known as The Nut. Stanley's fairytale village nestles impressively close to The Nut on an isthmus that creates a half-kilometre arc of clean and sandy ocean beach on one side and a huge sheltered bay to landward that in turn contains the small fishing harbour. Take the chairlift, or hike, to the top of The Nut and you will be rewarded with sensational views.

Reach the overnight accommodation by travelling South on the Murchison highway, through the Hellyer Gorge State Reserve.

Visit Waratah on the way to Cradle Mountain.
Detour to the right (7km in and out) to visit and have a coffee in Waratah:

Waratah sits on the edge of the Tarkine Reserve and was once home to the richest tin mine in the southern hemisphere.
Waratah has a magnificent waterfall – in the main street.
Today, the town offers insight into an original mining town.

Travel to accommodation at the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village.

I understand there is a shuttle bus to take people to Dove Lake for various walks.

This popular swimming spot is likely to provide one of the more invigorating swims of a lifetime! The whole track is boardwalk. From the Pencil Pine falls, continue downstream towards Knyvet Falls. Return via the same route. The waterfalls are particularly spectacular after periods of rain.
