Work Report - Fettlers Camp - week 12/19th Jan 2008

Track Manager, Peter Culley reported:
                                     "The Rail Crossing Week"
" The working week commenced with the reinstatement of the rail crossing at the Tip Road on Friday night. This was a mammoth task which the volunteer team started at 5pm. Twelve and a half hours later they completed the task at 5.30am. Work was carried out overnight to minimise disruption to Council workers and members of the public.
We are grateful for the following equipment and material - a Bobcat loaned by the "Mayfield"; a truck by Thrifty Link Hardware; cutting and lifting equipment by Moorhead Engineering and 2 loads of road base supplied by Oberon Council.
The remaining part of the week involved sleeper laying and track replacement in the section up to the Timber Complex factory gate at Oberon. Thanks must go to the volunteers and caterers who laboured under adverse conditions involving extremes of temperature and ultimately rainfall at the end of the week. Rain curtailed our expected progress to the railway station fence but that goal will be realised shortly.
Experience gained in the construction of the crossing will enable us to cope more easily with those remaining."

We could do with some more help so if you are able bodied and can lend a hand, even if only for a few days, the next week long camp is in February. Ring Bob Conners on 6336 1211 to arrange accommodation and Peter Culley for details of the track work - 0427 042 448

From Rutters Ridge Road sections of the line rerquired straightening...
... and this was carried out by means of the bobcat and crowbars. Where things were quite astray some surveying was needed.

Replacing and greasing the fishplates is a messy job. Clive Payne does the preliminary tightening with a socket.
